Tuxmats for the Model 3

Tuxmats for the Model 3

Clean and Protect, Do It Yourself, Modifications
I am a bit surprised that there aren't more all season floor mat options for the Model 3.  Usually aftermarket suppliers get cars early so or are allowed access to cars to take measurements etc. so that by the time the car is in the market there are items available for it.  So why has it been so hard to find good mats for the Model 3?  I don't know why, but I do know that there is now a good set of mats available from a company called Tuxmat.   A local Model 3 owner received one of their first…

Model 3 Light Upgrade

Model 3 Light Upgrade

Do It Yourself, Modifications
One of the upgrades I made to my Model S last year was to swap out the rather dim factory LED lights with brighter units from Abstract Ocean. I found these lights to be a real benefit for seeing what was in the trunk of my Model S at night as well as the brighter puddle lights on the bottom of the doors we helpful to passengers getting in and out of the car. I wanted the same thing for my Model 3 (I should have swapped out my lights before trading in my Model S as they are the…

High Speed Phone Charging

High Speed Phone Charging

Do It Yourself, Technical
One of the nice things about the Model 3 is that it comes with 2 spots in the forward section of the center console where you can charge phones by plugging them into the connectors that stick up from the black bottom bar. (There are also wireless solutions that replace the connectors with pads behind the rubber mat) Unfortunately, both the wired and wireless solutions rely on the USB ports for charging power that are hidden just below the panel where the phones rest. For me, this posed 2 problems. First, I was using one of those USB ports for…

Tesla Touch Up Paint Kit

Tesla Touch Up Paint Kit

Clean and Protect, Do It Yourself
I recently had something hit the side door of my Model 3 near the top and take a gouge out of the paint.   All that paint protection film I have on the front of the car, the lower rockers, behind the wheels, etc. and I end up getting hit near the top of a door.  Figures.   I went by the Tesla service center for something else and they had some black touch up paint so I asked them to fill in the gouge for the time being and they did.   Not a particularly graceful job but at…

Model 3 Day XPEL Install at Detail Auto

Clean and Protect, Modifications
The Tesla Owners Club of Kansas City decided to hold a Model 3 day on 3/3/18 to celebrate some members having recently taken delivery of their new Model 3's and to give Jon Cummins at Detail Auto an opportunity to showcase some of the ways in which you can protect and enhance a Tesla Model 3.   Jon graciously opened his shop to our members for almost 5 hours and supplied food, beverages and a wealth of information about XPEL paint protection film, window tint and ceramic coatings.  This article will feature information on the event and the XPEL installation…

Driving the Model 3

Reviews
This is going to be a fairly long review but I hope you enjoy it.  So $1000 and nearly two years after March 31, 2016, - and thanks to the generosity of our mutual friend Ken, I got to experience Model 3 first hand with ample time in all the seats on Saturday, and behind the wheel for a test drive in Sunday. First let’s discuss the LCD controls. I’m a tech guru by trade so going through all the menus and buttons on the touchscreen, even doing a little consultation in the owners manual (yes I downloaded it to…
